Oral History

Hello my name is Francisco Flores and I was somewhere about 20 years old

when I decided to come to the United States because my country was not offering

me much and the conditions were very poor where I had little money. I needed to

move to the U.S because I had to make something out of my life. My hopes were to

get a job, get a house, a car, and a family of my own. I needed to get my wife over to

the United States along with my very young son. I had lived in the United States ever

since Iwas sixteen because of my decision to have a better future and to help my

family get out of their poverty state. So my family and I decided to stay in the city of

Los Angeles and begin working so that I could send money to my family in mexico

and provide for my family here in the U.S. I was forced to leave my old life behind in

order to find something better here in the land of the free where everyone had a

voice and not much violence occurred.

Throughout the time that I lived here I obtained three different jobs that did

not pay very well but with the help of my wife we managed to get through the hard

times, which was settling and adapting the different environment. To me voting in

the government did not affect me much because I knew I could not do it since I was

an immigrant and not yet a citizen, however I did not come to take part in the voting

instead I came to triumph here by obtaining a job, getting a house, a car, and provide

for my family.

Good except you do go through some form of discrimination at jobs because you do
not speak the language and do not have documents.

that quantity of money and I’ve worked very hard to get where I am now.
Flores/RHS: What are your views on The U.S government here and in Mexico?
Flores: The government here has a democracy. You can choose your representatives
and the governmentwill support you. In Mexico you cant since democracy does not
exist. In Mexico the government wants to lead and they do whatever they want and
do not care about voting.Flores/RHS: What do you feel about voting?
Flores: Voting should be equal.
Flores/RHS: What about in Mexico?
Flores: In Mexico you have the liberty but the politicians count the votes unjustly
and choose who they want to win.
Flores/RHS: Do you feel this is unjust?
Flores: It is completely unjust because there is no point in voting.
Flores/RHS: How do you feel about the language in the U.S here and in Mexico?
Flores: To start off the language in the us can be spoken universally but the language
in Mexico might only be spoken in certain countries.

I believe it’s a good community because I can communicate with the community and

Flores: I believe they’re good because their is no discrimination in both countries.
Flores/RHS: how is the violence in Mexico and the U.S compared?
Flores: Mexico has a lot of Narcs and drug smugglers and I believe the U.S does not
have as many as them.

pay?Flores: I would move because I came to the U.S to look for better opportunities for
my family and if the opportunity presented itself then yes I would take the job.

they are elected?
Flores: The presidents are elected by the votes, the people vote for a new president
and gives a just pick.

Flores: I do believe that he’s just because he’s helped many people in the world no
matter their racial differences and has made decisions that have made him a just
and fair president.
Flores/RHS: If the government did not work here in the U.S would you move to
another state?
Flores: I don’t really think I would move because I did not come to the U.S to base
my life on politics so Ill let them deal with their politics.
